Clan Ek'kett is a clan of ambitious adventurers led by the Assembly of the Illuminated. Although typically integration with powerful computer systems has extremely deleterious effects upon the body, the Ek'kett lighten this load by integrating multiple people within the same system. Their leadership is one such collective, selected from among the tribes for 10-year terms with one member being rotated out each year. This collective tends to rapidly reach consensus on political issues far faster than pure organics would, without violating the rightful proscription of AI, and its decisions are handed down for implementation by the tribes.

Ek'kett History

Clan Ek'kett was founded roughly 1200 years ago as a group of near-polar settlers on Fen. At first they were content with a life on the far-flung edge of civilization; herding for their food, and hunting and mining for now-primitive sources of fuel and luxuries before and during Fen's industrial revolution. Life was rather dull but comfortable with their characteristically thick and warm coats, and for a time they settled into a domestic routine centered around equally alternating between the hearth and the cold wilderness that they braved to both obtain and then trade their plentiful resources. It was a happy accident that the ore, fuel, and gems were only just beginning to run out around the same time as true spaceflight was being embraced, and more than fortunate that the clever politicians of the time made a heavy push to reinvent the Ek'kett identity. No longer a culture of uneventful domesticity and routine, they made appeals to the daring of their settler ancestors, downplaying the importance of the hearth as a beloved cradle, and encouraging the population to prioritize the self-image of the arctic wanderers over the comfort of the home-fire. This worked, and Clan Ek'kett began to seriously push for the stars along with the rest of the species to embrace the stars as their next frontier. While the clan survived with its wealth intact because of this, however, Clan Ek'kett now has a culture that prioritizes risk-taking and striverism, to the degree that there is an unspoken cult of ambition. Ek'kett has been lucky enough to make many advances, but it does so in great leaps after many failures, and that's echoed on the individual level as well.

Ek'kett Specialization

Although the culture of the clan holds personal success in nearly any endeavor highly, this has led to an uncommon emphasis on entrepreneurship among the Ek'kett. Rather than centralization, their economic base is fundamentally one of small-scale enterprises collaborating on a massive scale. The internal economic politics aren't especially internally competitive, and the clan operates largely as a loose network of business allies; the Ek'kett bloc united against outsiders in a wide range of industries, whether they're commercial, industrial, or scientific.

Ek'kett Reputation

Ambitious strivers across many fields. Stereotyped as hyperactive, social, some might say annoying. The Ek'kett people hold the idea of success as the pinnacle of personal goals, although they're only slightly more individualistic than the average clan. The line of thinking behind this can be summarized as: "I want to earn great personal esteem, so as to enrich the collective (whether that be family, tribe, crew, or clan) and thus be rewarded by it." Their competitiveness in business has also given them a reputation for greed and cunning, although that's not entirely accurate.

Extra Info

As a formerly polar clan on Fen, the Ek'kett largely have developed thick coats of white or mostly-white fur, and tolerate the cold much better than most baseline Feni.

Political Bloc

Ek'kett leadership largely aligns with the Houyani, although individual members sometimes break for the Celleni instead. The truth is that most of the Ek'kett are simply not all that political, and to the extent that they are, their politics largely consists of wanting to open up new opportunities and new fields in which to find success. Sometimes these new fields consist of literal physical expansion, and in that case, the person in question likely aligns with the Celleni. The Illuminated, however, judge that over-eager physical expansion risks conflict, and opportunities are better generated by internal development of science and industry.
